Home appliance manuals for the day of installation, and for years after

Air conditioners, fans, washing machines, refrigerators, geysers and water purifiers are installed once and looked after for years. Customers ask what to prepare, which filter to change, where the nearest service centre is and when the warranty ends. Put the answers one scan from the unit.

Overview

A home appliance usually meets its owner twice. The first time is installation, when a technician is in the room and the customer wants to know whether the site is ready and what the charges are. The second is months or years later, when the filter is due, a code appears on the display or the unit stops cooling. By then the booklet has usually gone with the box.

A label on the unit stays where it is. A page behind it can hold a site-preparation checklist, a filter schedule, a list of spare parts and the service details for that exact model, in Hindi and English, and you can correct it without reprinting anything.

We have no home-appliance demo yet. Our demo is a fictional air fryer, the Norra AF‑500, which shows every module working: open the demo. Everything on this page is an illustration, not customer data.

01 · Modules

What to put on a home appliances page

  • 01 · Start Here

    Before the technician arrives

Split AC: wall space, the power point and where the drain goes. Front-load washer: remove the transit bolts, level the unit, connect the inlet. Geyser: mounting, plumbing and earthing. Purifier: inlet point and first flush. Say who does what, and what is charged.

  • 02 · Troubleshooting

What the customer sees, then what to try

“Not cooling”, “water leaking from the indoor unit”, “drum won’t spin”, “code on the display”. Safe checks come first, and a clear stop sign where a technician is needed. Use the codes in your own service manual as keywords, so a search for the code finds the fix.

  • 03 · Videos

    Small jobs customers can do

Cleaning an AC filter, wiping a fan’s blades safely, cleaning a washer’s drain filter, changing a purifier’s pre-filter. Upload clips up to 50 MB or embed YouTube or Vimeo, which suits longer films and slower connections.

  • 04 · Spare parts & accessories

Filters and parts, by part number

Purifier filter sets and their change interval, remotes, inlet hoses, mounting brackets. Add a photo, compatibility note, price and buy link. Listing a part isn’t the same as selling it; ItemDocs links to your store or marketplace listing.

  • 05 · Warranty & registration

Terms that separate parts from labour

Compressor, motor and general warranty often differ, so state each one in plain words. Say when the warranty starts and how to claim. Switch on registration with the fields your service team needs, such as phone and address.

  • 06 · Support

    Who to call, and where

Customer-care phone and hours, a WhatsApp button, email and a link to your service-centre locator. The WhatsApp chat opens with the product name and ID filled in, so the agent knows which model it is.

02 · Example page

An illustration of how the modules come together for one product, in the order customers meet them. Every module is optional; publish what you have and add the rest as your search data shows what is missing.

Fig. 2 — The sections of the example page, numbered from the top.
  1. Notice banner: “New filter set available for this model”, or a safety notice.
  2. Product, model and ID, with search: “filter”, “TDS”, “service centre”.
  3. Start Here: site checklist, who installs it and the first flush.
  4. Manual (PDF, searchable), quick-start guide and safety instructions.
  5. How-to guides: change the pre-filter, clean the tank, read the indicator lights.
  6. Troubleshooting: no water, slow flow, leak, indicator on, unusual taste.
  7. FAQs, specifications, and warranty with registration.
  8. Filter sets and spare parts with buy links; service and support details.

Things to get right

  • 01

    Decide when the warranty starts

The Department of Consumer Affairs has advised white-goods makers to start warranties from installation, not purchase. ItemDocs can start a warranty from the installation date, which the customer enters when registering. See digital warranty cards in India.

  • 02

Treat consumables as their own content

Filter life depends on use, so give the interval as your manual does, and show how to order the part. ItemDocs doesn’t send filter reminders; a page can only show the schedule to whoever scans.

  • 03

Mark what a customer must not open

Refrigerant lines, live wiring and pressure parts are technician work. Put a plain warning at the start of those pages, and keep the required safety information on paper in the box as well.

  • 04

Put the code where it survives

The box goes on the day of installation. Put a label near the rating plate, on the indoor unit of a split AC, or inside the door or lid, and print at least 20 mm with the ID underneath. See QR size and placement.
